Perry Hannah, Traverse City's founding father, built his retirement home on Sixth Street in 1893. It was the Hanna family's private residence until 1934, was donated to the American Legion, served as a school for Kindergarten thru 7th Grade students from 1934 to 1937 and has been a funeral home since 1937. The Jonkhoff family has owned and operated the funeral home since 1987.
